Jessie Peck of The Spinners Pays Tribute to John Edwards

Detroit, MI – May 11, 2025 —It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Edwards, the distinguished lead vocalist of The Spinners from 1977 to 2000. John Edwards was born on December 25, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri. He began his musical journey singing in clubs while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. After returning to the United States, he pursued a solo career, achieving success with hits like “Careful Man” in 1974. In 1977, he joined The Spinners, bringing his powerful tenor voice to chart-topping hits such as “Working My Way Back to You” and “Cupid.” His dynamic performances and emotive vocals became a defining element of the group’s sound during his tenure.

In 2000, John suffered a debilitating stroke that led to his retirement from the group. Despite his health challenges, his legacy endured through the music he helped create. John Edwards passed away in 2024, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire fans worldwide.
